Watts turns up the ‘Heat’ for Evesham Girls!

U18 Girls Central Warks League Premier Division:

Evesham United U18 Girls  5-1 Dosthill Colts Girls U18

Evesham’s U18 Girls came back from a goal down against the hard working Dosthill Colts side to record another win and keep the pressure on the league leaders in the Central Warwickshire Premier league.

Unlike last week it was Dosthill who started the stronger being faster to the ball and closing down the Evesham Girls at every turn. It was no surprise therefore that after 10 minutes the Colts took the lead with a powerful run and shot from their striker.

This however just caused the United girls to raise their game and mid way through the first half, some hard work in midfield by Hannahs’ Watts and Kedward lead to Zoe Pygott blasting a shot past the keeper from the edge of the area.

Hannah Lowerson made way for Kelly Fowkes on the left wing and Shortly before half time Fowkes got clear on the edge of the area and sent a skimming shot into the far corner.

Dosthill nearly replied immediately, the strong following wind helping an in swinging corner go over keeper Clare Hamptons reach, hit the far post and run along the goal line before being cleared.

This enabled Evesham to keep a 2-1 lead at half time.

In the second half Hannah Watts continued her woman of the match performance, dominating the centre of the park, and being especially well assisted by Sophie Griffiths on the right wing and Pygott up front.

Within 2 minutes of the restart Pygott’s corner found Griffiths at the near post and she headed home.

With the defensive four of Amy Campbell, Lauren Cowley, Beth Guy and Sophie Broome stopping any Dosthill attacks it was down to Evesham to push forward.

Further goals from Pygott and Griffiths meant last weeks double hat trick heroine, Hannah Campbell, played the supporting role this week.

Katie Brain came on up front in the second half but Evesham didn’t add further to the 5 goals which brings them within 2 points of League leaders Wolves.

This Saturday 19th January the Evesham Girls are at home to Starlands St Annes, weather permitting KO 10.30 – all supporters would be very welcome, refreshments are available.
