Ashley Williams and Liam Harding have decided to stay at Evesham United after the club received seven-day approaches for both midfielders according to the Gloucestershire Echo.

Williams, who signed the club in the summer from Paulton Rovers, has turned down a move to Southern League Premier Division side Frome Town, while Harding has opted against joining Cinderford Town.

The news has handed Evesham a boost ahead of their FA Trophy replay against Chasetown at the Jubilee Stadium on Tuesday night with the prospect of a home tie against Redditch United in the first qualifying round an extra motivation for both sides.

Matt Sysum made up for an earlier mistake that allowed Chasetown to take the lead when he stepped up to score a penalty five minutes from time and earn Evesham a 1-1 draw in the preliminary round tie on Saturday against a side who had already knocked them out of the FA Cup this season.

Evesham boss Paul Collicutt said: “We did deserve to get them back to Evesham but it’s only half the job done. We’ve certainly got our work cut out because it will be a difficult game.

“Matt showed a lot of character and not just Matt, but the whole team did to come from 1-0 behind.

“It will be nice to play them at home having played them twice away. It’s always nice to have home games and on our day I think we can beat anybody at Evesham.

“It’s a big incentive for both teams to win the game and get a home draw.”

Collicutt is hoping that Sysum, Dan Macdonald and Linden Dovey will be fit after they picked up knocks at Chasetown and they will all be assessed before the replay.
