Evesham pulled off a surprise but deserved victory at higher graded Redditch United tonight in the FA Cup First Qualifying Round.  The visitors were missing Ashley Edenborough and Nick Stanley from Saturday’s match being replaced by Aaron Drake and Carl Brown.

Evesham wasted a golden opportunity on 8 minutes when Lance Smith was fouled in the box, with the resultant spot-kick missed by Jared Wilson.  However in the 22nd minute George Washbourne put the Robins ahead in the tie.

In the second half, goalkeeper Kevin Sawyer was not seriously tested with the defence led by Matt Sysum playing brilliantly. Indeed Evesham could have scored a couple of goals late on with breakaways.

Evesham now travel to Southern Premier League Histon who are currently second bottom in the table on Saturday 27th September.

EVESHAM UNITED: Sawyer, Wilson, Binns, Wood, Sysum, Dovey (Wellon 60), Kennedy (Watts 73), Drake, Smith, Brown, Washbourne (Tambling 80).

Subs not used: Harding, Goddard

Attendance: 279
