13. 6.14 Bewdley Town 2 vs Evesham Utd Veterans 0
Friday 13th turned out to be an unlucky day for the Robins against a good Bewdley side. On a muggy evening at Worcester the home side started brightly, enjoying plenty of the ball with the midfield due of Hawkins and Thomas seeing plenty of possession.
The deadlock was broken after 18 minutes following some good fluid football by Bewdley saw them go 1-0 up. Boosted by their lead, the away side continued to probe testing Smith in goal and keeping the back four of Evesham busy. The second goal came on 26 minutes when a rare mistake by the Evesham centre backs Foster and Jelfs allowed the Bewdley striker to finish.
Evesham fought back well with efforts by Jeffs and Malin coming close. The second half was goal-less although Heritage and Valentine had good chances but just couldnt find the back of the net.

Starting Line-up: Smith, Webb, Ellis, Foster, Jelfs, Hawkins, Thomas, Heritage, Boiliner, Malin, Jeffs. Subs: Valentine, Middleton

28. 5.14  Comberton Dynamoes 6 vs Evesham Utd Veterans 1

Evesham Veterans kicked off their league campaign with a difficult game against the league favourites Comberton Dynamos on a drizzly Wednesday night in Kidderminster.  The game started at a frantic pace, impressive for a Veterans league with both teams eager to control the midfield, however it was the home side that managed to carve out the early chances forcing some goods saves out of the Evesham keeper Richards. The deadlock was broken after 22 minutes with a well worked set piece was met and finished by Comberton.

With ex-Aston Villa and Kidderminster Harriers players in their attacking force, the Evesham’s defence was kept busy all evening and it wasn’t long after that, the lead was extended with the score 4-0 with just 30 minutes on the clock.

United then enjoyed their best spell of the game and put the home side under some real pressure with decent performances by Clements, Hawkins and Jeffs.  Evesham pulled one back with a well taken goal by new signing Jeffs just before the break.

The second half saw both sides making several changes throughout making full use of the ‘roll in/roll off’ system and it saw the Evesham defensive unit tested throughout. With Comberton really turning the screws, however it was met by valiant efforts by the likes of Foster, Ellis, Hawtin, Richards and Sheppard. They did manage to extend their lead by two further goals, however despite the loss it was a good encouraging performance by the men in red and white and they look forward to their next outing against Bewdley in 2 weeks.

Starting XI – Richards, Ellis, Sheppard, Foster, Hawtin, Jeffs, Hawkins, Webb, Alfaro, Jelfs, Clements. Subs Used: Valentine, Heritage, Boiling, Smith

NEWS – 9.3.14

Following the very first league meeting, its been announced that the Worcestershire Veterans League will kick off with a pilot summer league starting first week of May 2014. With 10 teams confirmed including sides from Kidderminster, Worcester & Stourport the league promises to be a good test for the newly formed Evesham United team.

The league format will be on a fortnightly basis with all games being played at central venues including Pershore and Worcester Uni, all 3G pitches, all midweek, which is ideal for players with other commitments, families and work, etc. Games will be 80 minutes and include roll on-roll off substitutions, again suiting the veteran footballer. The biggest issue was surrounding the eligible age as various county leagues are run on different basis.

It was proposed that the pilot league would be on an Over 35 basis, however with all sides allowed to play a set number of younger players, subject to agreement by both sides.

Following this news, the Evesham side are looking forward to the start of the season and are continuing to train every Friday at the High School, 7- 8.30 pm with a number of friendly matches lined up between now and May. ‘’New faces are turning up every week and we welcome anyone who fancies it.’’ More information is available by contacting Jordan Maskell on 07808 846950 or email jordansmaskell@gmail.com
