22.9.12  Evesham United Development Centre 0 vs Newport County 7

Newport County travelled to play Evesham United Development Centre at the Jubilee stadium this weekend, in a game that produced good quality football and some high quality goals. The first quarter produced some fantastic attacking football, as both sides attempted to break the deadlock. This resulted in Newport County hitting the bar early on, and Mathew McDonough putting narrowly over the bar for Evesham United Development Centre. However, this was initially to no avail as the first quarter ended goalless, although both sides could be happy with the football played. The second quarter continued in a similar mould until a scramble in the box lead to the ball falling to Ellis Holland who placed the ball into the bottom corner. As Evesham United tried to press forward to equalise, the pace of Ellis Holland caught them on the counter attack as he ran from the half way line to place past the outstanding Aiden Shelton in goal, to put Newport 2-0 ahead The third quarter began with a spectacular free kick from Alex John, that found its way over the wall and nestled into the top left corner. Evesham United then showed signs of getting back into the game with good link up play between Josh Keitley and Kier Mallen in the middle of the park. However, just minutes later a good save from Aiden Shelton fell to the feet Adam Kaplan who finished the chance calmly to put Newport county 4-0 ahead. This lead was then further extended after another run down the left wing from the outstanding Ellis Holland was capped off with a calm finish to complete an impressive hat-trick. In the fourth quarter, Adam Kaplan tucked away his second goal of the game after tapping home from a few yards after a good ball into the box. The scoring was then rounded off by Lucas Murray who sprinted from inside his own half and the found the bottom corner to make the score 7-0. Despite the result both managers felt they could come away with a positive outlook on the game after some good passing football from both sides.

8.9.12 Evesham United Development Centre 1 vs. FC Wiltshire 7

FC Wiltshire travelled to play Evesham United Development Centre at the Jubilee stadium last weekend. As expected the newly formed Evesham United team came up against a well refined unit and exceptional players in the Wiltshire team.

Initially the Evesham players did very to hold off the Wiltshire attacks and created some of their own, however after the first 10 minutes Wiltshire scored their first when an excellent through ball combined with the pace and strength of James Stobbart allowed a one on one with the keeper which was converted at the second attempt. The second Wiltshire goal was scored by Euan Turner who struck the ball powerfully and accurately from the edge of the box.

In the second quarter, Evesham settled into the game and were starting to compete at the level required. More attacks from Evesham resulted in their first and only goal of the game. Kier Mallen managed to evade the oncoming midfields and create enough space to coolly and accurately curl the ball into the top corner of the goal from outside the box.

After half time, Wiltshire continued to play excellent football, especially when on the attack which caused problems for Evesham who were hit by some defensive injuries and weakened by the resulting changes in their formation. The skill and clever football by Wiltshire was rewarded with more goals despite some fantastic saves from Aiden Shelton and the fantastic efforts shown by the rest of the Evesham squad. Goals from Alfie Green, Daniel Skinner, Otis Newbury, Edward Cooke and Stobbart secured the 7-1 win for Wiltshire.

Despite the result both managers were able to leave the stadium with a positive outlook for the season due to the pure effort, determination and skill put in by all the players.
