Evesham Utd Ladies 7 vs Bridgnorth Spartans Ladies 0
A fantastic display of attacking football by the Evesham Ladies was only countered by some resolute defending from Bridgnorth Spartans and particularly their goalkeeper Rebecca Rushton.
From the first whistle the hosts were out of the blocks and it was only down to poor shooting and some great saves that Evesham failed to score from a host of chances in the first 15 minutes. However eventually Katie Armento beat the offside trap and raced to the by line to cross for Hannah Campbell to fire home after 25 minutes. The Spartans continued to battle but Evesham were not to be thwarted and a second goal from Campbell was quickly followed by one from Grace Harker. The Evesham midfield of Kasey Corbett and Hannah Watts were threading balls through to the Evesham strikers on regular occasions however the Spartans high defensive line meant the hosts were getting caught offside far too often. It was from a lovely passing move across the back line that Rosie Johns fed the ball to Corbett who crashed through the Spartans defensive line cleverly chipped the keeper to bring the score to 4-0 at half time.
In the second half Bridgnorth regrouped and had chances themselves however these were snuffed out by the Evesham defence of Kelly Fowkes, Rosie Johns, Millie Meadows, Jessica Newman and Sophie Broome in goal.
However the Evesham midfield kept feeding passes to the hosts replenished strike force, with Laura Ball (in only her second appearance for the Evesham Ladies) making a great run and shot across the keeper into the far corner to extend the lead. Hannah Watts then decided to get in on the scoring and after taking the ball round a couple of defenders she rounded the keeper to slot the ball into the net. Ball scored again late on to wrap up the scoring but it should be noted that Bridgnorth battled throughout and the game was played in a competitive but respectable manner.
Players of the Match were given to Kasey Corbett and Rebecca Rushton the Evesham midfielder and Bridgnorth goalkeeper respectively.
