Evesham United’s three match unbeaten run came to a halt after Josh Klein-Davies scored a stoppage-time winner to keep Paulton in a play-off spot and clinch their 12th away victory in the Calor League South & West Division.
It was tough luck on Paul Collicutt’s men who fought back from being a goal down and deserved more for an impressive second-half display. Paulton arrived at the Jubilee Stadium in fourth place and took only ten minutes to get a hold on the game. Sloppy defending from Brandon Barnes’ corner allowed Scott Brice to bundle the ball over the line at the back post.
The visitors should have put the game to bed by half-time but the pacy Nick McCostie twice got clear only to be denied by goalkeeper Louie Barnfather and then dragged another opportunity beyond the advancing Barnfather and wide of the target. Barnes was then guilty of another glaring miss as Paulton finished the half on top.
Evesham came out after the interval with all guns blazing and levelled within three minutes, Lance Smith latched on to Elliot Kennedy’s throughball before rounding keeper Kyle Phillips and rolling in his 17th goal of the season. United now had a spring in their step and stunned the visitors by deservedly going ahead with the hour mark approaching. James Bowen delivered a long throw that was cleared to Ben Evans on the edge of the box and the youngster netted his first goal for the club with an unstoppable volley into the top corner. Evesham’s joy, however, was short-lived when McCootie made amends for his earlier misses by tapping-in Barnes’ low cross just four minutes later to make it 2-2.
The game took another twist when Paulton’s Stuart Tovey was given his marching orders for violent conduct leaving the visitors to play the remaining fourteen minutes with ten men. But Rovers had the final say in added time, when Klein-Davies drove in the winner after more uncertainty in the home defence.
