Evesham travelled into Herefordshire to face West Midlands League Division One Ledbury Town in their latest pre-season friendly and returned from New Street after an emphatic 10-0 victory on Tuesday night.

It was a masterclass in finishing by Paul Collicutt`s men who showed no mercy to a Ledbury side who ply their trade three leagues lower. To their credit, Ledbury put in a decent shift in the first-half but ran out of steam after the break allowing the Robins to go on and score another seven times without reply.

Despite the scoreline, United had to wait half-an-hour before breaking the deadlock when Marcus Palmer finished low past Nick Blakeway. Ian Merrick cleared off the Ledbury line to keep out Will Wellon`s header and then keeper Blakeway blocked well from Palmer as Evesham took a grip on the game. Two goals in three minutes handed Evesham a comfortable lead at half-time. First Blakeway failed to hold Lance Smith`s drive and Aaron Drake followed-up to score and then Palmer`s ball over the top released Smith who raced clear before clinically beating Blakeway with a measured finish.

HALF-TIME : Ledbury Town (0) Evesham United (3)

The second-half was one-way traffic towards the Ledbury goal who had no answer to United`s pace and energy. Five minutes in, Palmer set-up Jared Wilson and the former Birmingham City player made it 4-0 drilling in an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner of Blakeways net. The hardworking Jack Watts added a fifth after rounding Blakeway and Wilson got his second and United`s sixth with another fabulous shot from outside the box. On 78 minutes the classy Ashley Edenborough waltzed through the Ledbury defence for 7-0 and two minutes later got on the scoresheet again to make it eight with a first-time drive after neat skills and pin-point cross from Ben Evans. Edenborough then turned provider crossing to the back post for youngster James Baldwin to head home, before the impressive Wilson with the last kick of the game, delightfully curled in goal number ten to complete a brilliant and well deserved hat-trick.

Another good work-out for the team in Red and White and a treat for the United supporters who made the journey to the picturesque market town.
