Evesham went down to their fifth Calor League South & West defeat of the season at table topping North Leigh on Saturday. United failed to build on a strong first half display, conceding twice after the break, thus allowing the Millers to extend their lead at the top of the division to four points.

For the majority of the opening forty five minutes, Evesham looked the more likely side to make the breakthrough. Marcus Jackson, who was a constant threat for United, three times created an opening for himself in front of goal only to fire on each occasion into the arms of keeper Paul White. Luck was on North Leigh’s side when Linden Dovey’s goalbound volley struck a defender on the line before sailing over. There was then a fright for the Robins at the opposite end when Aaron Woodley’s header crashed against the crossbar before being cleared.

It was a different story after the break and with the slope in their favour it took North Leigh just four minutes to open the scoring thanks to Kieran Sanders low drive past injured keeper John Bateman. Approaching the hour mark the game slipped further away from Evesham’s grasp when Jacob Walcott took advantage of hesitancy at the back to fire under the restricted Bateman to make it 2 – 0.

A couple of goalmouth scrambles failed to produce an Evesham reply but Shaun Cunnington’s side kept going, forcing White to make impressive stoppage time saves from Jared Wilson and Nat Lewars.
