On Sunday Evesham Ladies travelled to Upton to play Welland Ladies on a rather bumpy surface. From the start the visitors took the game to Welland and from an early corner Millie Meadows put Evesham ahead with a scuffed shot that went in off a host of boots. Evesham then started to pepper the Welland goal with some very tidy approach play, Hannah Watts spreading the ball wide to the wings. However poor finishing from the visitors forwardline and some brave goalkeeping meant a host of chances went begging.

Welland were not to be downhearted with Rosie Preston and Annie Highway working hard in midfield and late on in the half returned the ball into the box from a corner and Heather O’Brien was left all on her own to level the scoring, leaving Evesham to the rue their earlier chances.

After much needed refreshment at half time and some soul searching in the visitors camp, the battle recommenced this time with the sun on the Evesham Ladies backs. The onslaught on the Welland goal continued and it was not long before striker Katie Armento eventually managed to stab a loose ball over the line to regain the lead. This at last seemed to relax the visitors and Beth Guy found herself on the right hand side after taking a corner and the left back curled a superb shot into the far corner for the third goal.

Evesham then made some changes with Immy Wray and Paige Williams replacing two of the forward line. Wray nearly scored just after coming on but the keeper saved well. She continued to battle and shortly after set up team mate Williams who coolly finished for her first goal in adult football. There was just time for a final break by Evesham with winger Sophie Griffiths beating the defender before chipping the ball over the keeper at the near post.

The game was played in a competitive but equally respectable manner.

Players of the Match were given to Heather O’Brien and Hannah Campbell for Welland and Evesham Utd Ladies respectively.
