Evesham produced an encouraging performance to hold Blue Square Bet North newcomers Leamington to a goalless draw in their latest pre-season friendly at the Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium. Robin`s manager Shaun Cunnington saw his newly assembled side prove more than a match for last season`s Southern League Premier Division champions and be pleased with the level of fitness and commitment shown by his new charges.

The opening half was even with both sides creating a number of chances to break the deadlock. Former Evesham defender Liam Daly had the first opportunity going close early on and then Brakes keeper Lewis Fenney was forced to push Dan Holloway`s strike onto a post and Marcus Jackson was just off target as Evesham more than matched their higher graded opponents. United stopper John Bateman and a fine block by Matt Sysum then prevented Leamington who finished the half with a flourish, an interval lead.

Substitute Carl Brown looked threatening for Evesham after coming on in the second half and twice forced Fenney into making excellent saves. A succession of corners failed to produce an opening goal for Cunnington`s side and only a late save by the impressive Fenney prevented trialist Andre Rodrigues from netting a deserved winner for the hosts.
