The sending-off of Jamie Hyde after just ten minutes proved decisive as Evesham United lost 2-0 at home on Tuesday night to Mangotsfield United in the Evo-Stik Southern South & West.

The influential midfielder was shown a straight red for a challenge on Liam Monelle and the Robins never recovered going down to defeat number ten at home this season.

Soon after Hyde`s departure, United keeper Ben McNamara was at full stretch to save from David Stone, while at the other end, Luke Corbett`s volley from out wide sailed just over with visiting stopper Kevin Sawyer struggling to make his ground. But with 33 minutes on the clock, Mangotsfield edged ahead. Jared Wilson failed to cut out Monelle`s crossfield pass allowing Stone time and space to beat McNamara with a measured drive into the bottom corner.

Sawyer was in action during the early exchanges of the second-half pushing aside to deny Corbett and then top scorer Marcus Palmer blazed just over. A second goal for the visitors on 73 minutes put the game beyond Evesham`s battling ten-men. The ball was deflected into the path of substitute Ryan Bath who raced clear before stroking in past the advancing McNamara.

Evesham came close to pulling a goal back with five minutes to go when Corbett`s header thumped against the post following Wilson`s fine run and cross.
