Downing – Two goals & assist

In-form Leigh Downing scored twice and had a hand in the other as the Robins eased to a well earned three points. United unchanged from the side that beat Didcot three days earlier, had to wait just 12 minutes before taking the lead. Will Gayton`s corner was cleared to Downing who netted with a superb volley from the edge of the box. Wimborne responded forcing keeper Tom Cross to save at full stretch from Matt Kemble`s header and then Jared Wilson cleared off the line to deny Steve Smith.

United took a hold on the game by scoring in the opening minute of the second half. Downing`s inswinging corner was glanced in at the near post by Gayton. Wilson and Downing were only inches away from extending the lead with shots that shaved the Wimborne woodwork. Downing the capped an inspired performance by finding the net for his third goal in two games, collecting a short corner from Gayton and drilling into the bottom corner past Magpies keeper Jason Harvell with just sixty seconds to go.
