Coalville Town Reserves 3 vs. 4 Evesham United Reserves

On a very wet and windy Saturday Coalville Town entertained the young Evesham United Reserves in the Macron Birmingham Challenge Trophy. Evesham were looking to win their third game on the trot in this competition taking them into a Semi Final.

The Evesham team was set out with a attack minded game plan, at the back was captain Luke Hitchman with Ryan Craig and 16 year old Callum Hughes from the Under 18s development squad, two explosive wing backs in Ben Hayes and Oliver Burness. Holding midfield Paul Whitehouse sitting behind Ryan Hodgetts and Josh Bartlam with Michael Bent and Jack Cullity pairing up as our two strikers.

Evesham’s intent was immediate, and within the first 10 minutes were twogoals up, with assists from Oliver Burness and Jack Cullity, beating the Coalville’s defence with the ball being crossed for Michael Bent to nod home.

Coalville then woke up, and with a deflection on the edge of the box, and a second on the 20 minute mark made it 2-2.

Evesham came back with some breathtaking football, quickly regaining the lead from a Cal Hughes tap in from a free kick executed by Jack Cullity and then Ben Hayes headed home from another free kick taken by Oliver Burness.

Half time Coalville 2 Evesham 4

Second half once again saw Coalville push forward with some good football only to be thwarted by the outstanding defence of Luke Hitchman, Ryan Craig and Cal Hughes. Ryan Hodgetts had an excellent game in midfield.

Changes were made by both sides, and Coalville managed a third goal to put pressure on Evesham with 20 minutes to go. Another devastating run by Oliver Burness saw him brought down in the box, with Evesham awarded a penalty. Taken by Jack Cullity, the Coalville keeper pushed it wide, to keep them in the game.

It was a fantastic team performance with the young team proving very difficult to beat. Evesham Reserves are now in the Challenge Trophy semi final.
