Evesham secured a play-off place this afternoon at the Jubilee Stadium after a come from behind victory against Wantage Town.

The home side got off to the worst possible start in the 3rd minute when goalkeeper Kevin Sawyer brought down a Wantage forward in the box.  From the resultant penalty, Ben Whitehead scored into the bottom right corner.  The visitors went close on the quarter hour and a minute later poor defensive work saw Whitehead have a run on goal and he finished well to make it 2-0.  Evesham finally got their game going hitting the woodwork twice and having a goal disallowed.

In the 31st minute, Evesham were back in it when Nick Stanley scored with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. This perked up the home side further and three minutes later Lee Smith’s shot was parried out by the goalkeeper Gareth Tucker, but straight to Ashley Edenborough who scored from close range.  It was 2-2 at half-time.

The second half was dominated by Evesham.  In the 57th minute Adam Mann scored with a precise finish after a Lee Smith shot was parried out by the keeper.  On 69 minutes substitute George Washbourne’s cross went to Matt Sysum whose accurate shot went slowly into the bottom corner.  Five minutes later Evesham went nap when a Marcus Jackson free kick was headed home by Edenborough for his second goal.

Evesham are 12 matches unbeaten including winning the last seven games in a row.  Also only one defeat in 25 games! Need to finish 2nd or 3rd to have a home game in the one match play-off semi final which is played in midweek following the last game of the season.
