Evesham secured one of the finest comebacks in recent times coming back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at Swindon Supermarine. To make it more remarkable Evesham were reduced to 10 men as early as the 13th minute, with goalkeeper Kevin Sawyer sent off for bringing down a Swindon forward. Midfielder Liam Harding went in goal but could not prevent the penalty being scored to make it 2-1.
Earlier the home side went a goal up after a minute through Waldron. George Washbourne equalised for the visitors in the 6th minute with a super strike into the top corner from 20 yards. Evesham then went 2-1 down through the penalty and then it was 3-1 on 25 minutes when Corey King bagged. Evesham were thrown a lifeline in the 32nd minute when former Swindon Supermarine striker Ashley Edenborough pulled a goal back with a volley from 25 yards.
With Evesham 3-2 down and a man down the second half was going to be difficult. However a fine performance saw the visitors create more chances, with stand-in Harding kept the less busy of the two keepers. With a quarter of an hour left, Nick Stanley’s free kick made it 3-3. In the third minute of injury time skipper Matt Sysum headed in Sean Wood’s corner to bring joyous scenes at the end in front of a healthy number of visiting supporters.
A performance of spirit and determination saw Evesham record their eleventh game without defeat, including nine wins and a rise of one place in the League to fourth.
