Evesham Ladies were at home against Droitwich Spa Ladies in a 2nd v 3rd League battle on Sunday and the game did not disappoint.

A tight game between two good footballing sides saw lots of excellent passing with Evesham generally getting hold of midfield but Droitwich continuing to close them down and hassle. Evesham continued to have the upper hand and had many chances but didn’t take one until Sophie Griffiths added to her tally with a screamer from outside the box just before half time.

In the second half Evesham continued to press and another superb effort from Griffiths made it 2-0 to the hosts. However the United Ladies seemed to think they had it won and started to relax allowing Droitwich to take the initiative. The Spa Ladies were back in it with a good strike from Claire Jordan finding the back of the net 1-2 and moments later it was 2-2 with another swift Droitwich move finished off by Gemma Wilks. The visitors now had the wind at their backs and in their sails and pressed for the third and were rewarded for their efforts when April Polden scored 2-3 Droitwich.

Evesham at last woke up and equalised with a well taken goal by Hannah Campbell 3-3. But with the game now completely stretched Droitwich made it 3-4 from a corner which Evesham failed to clear and Lucy Solloway pounced. The hosts pushed in vain for another equaliser, but to no avail as Droitwich held out for the all important three points.
