Evesham United manager Paul Collicutt expects a hard-fought clash at neighbours Shortwood United tonight in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West (7.45pm) according to the Worcester News.

The Robins have climbed to fourth place in the table after Saturday’s 2-1 win against Wantage Town at the Jubilee Stadium.

Adam Mann netted his first goal of the season and George Washbourne also scored for Evesham who stretched their unbeaten run to six matches.

Shortwood are in eighth spot and gave a good account of themselves at higher- graded Oxford City before slipping to a 3-1 defeat in Saturday’s FA Cup second qualifying round tie.

Collicutt said: “Shortwood are always a difficult team to beat and we face them on the back of a good FA Cup run.

Shortwood lost 3-1 at Oxford City but, according to reports, it wasn’t a reflection of the tie and Shortwood were unlucky not to get a replay.

“I know the management at Shortwood very well and I am sure they will make life hard for us.

“It’s a good playing surface at Shortwood and they encourage their lads to play football so it should be a hard-fought and well contested match.”

Collicutt was delighted with his side’s two goals against Wantage which lifts their tall to 11 from 10 matches.

And the Evesham boss was pleased influential defender Matt Sysum came through 90 minutes after missing the previous weekend’s 1-1 draw at Didcot Town through injury.

“We probably didn’t play as well against Wantage as we did at Didcot but we got three points,” said Collicutt.

“It was great for Mann to break his duck for the season and it was also his best game for us this term.

“We are creating plenty of chances and it was nice to get two goals. But we were very disappointed concede a goal with 20 minutes remaining.”

Collicutt added: “We have only conceded six goals and two or three of those have been stupid goals.

“Our defence has been solid but it should have been another clean-sheet because that’s something our goalkeeper and defence pride themselves in.

“We have conceded more goals at home than we have away and that tells its own story.”
