Evesham United are looking to snap up a new player ahead of their Boxing Day clash with Banbury United at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium (3pm) according to the Worcester News.

The Robins arrived at Winchester City last Saturday with just two players on the bench, with Jared Wilson, Nick Stanley, Ashley Williams and Liam Harding all unavailable, and went on to lose 2-1.

Manager Paul Collicutt said he was hopeful midfielder Stanley would return in time to face promotion-chasing Banbury and revealed he was considering bolstering his depleted squad.

“I am hoping to get another body on board,” he said. “Whether that’ll be a new signing or somebody on loan, I don’t know yet but we’ll see what we can do.

“You’d like to keep everybody fit and involved. Unfortunately, we have hit a period where we have picked up a few suspensions and one or two that have been ill but that’s football.

“You have to just get on with it and I am certainly not looking to use it as an excuse for Saturday.

“I was proud of the way my players went about their business and we were very unlucky not to come away with anything.”

The defeat to Winchester ended Evesham’s eight-match unbeaten run in Southern League Division One South and West and Collicutt said his players were determined to bounce back.

“Banbury are in the same shoes as ourselves as they were on a good run and got beaten on Saturday, so it should all lead to an entertaining game,” he said.

“They had over 450 at their place for their last game, so hopefully they will bring big support and we can get a very good crowd as well to cheer us on.”
