Manager Paul Collicutt believes the Christmas period will be a good measure of Evesham United’s Calor Southern League Division One South and West credentials as reported in the Evesham Journal.

The Robins have four fixtures from Saturday until New Year’s Day, including against the league’s current top two — Merthyr Town and Cirencester Town.

Evesham host second-placed Cirencester at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium on Saturday (3pm) and Merthyr on January 1 (1pm).

They also face a short Boxing Day trip to Stratford Town (3pm) and entertain Wimborne Town on Saturday, December 28, with both opponents also above United in the table.

The Robins have lost just once in eight games since Collicutt took over with three victories and four draws.

“The confidence of the lads has grown over the last eight games but it’s a big difference between drawing and winning,” the Evesham boss said. “The expectations get greater as you go on a run but you have to work hard. The players are doing that but we’re not winning enough. We have got a difficult Christmas.”

Over the next four games, we play the top two in the league.

“By New Year’s Day, I will have a good idea how much Evesham have got to improve. All we have to do now is turn a few draws into wins.”

Centre-half Allton Axton and midfielder Ed Williams are available to face Cirencester and Stratford, but then serve three and one-game bans respectively for their red cards in last Saturday’s extraordinary 2-2 draw at Guildford City.

While the Robins had two players dismissed, the hosts finished with eight men in Surrey.

Collicutt added: “It was a crazy game. I don’t think I have ever been involved in a match where there have been five sent off.
