Daventry Town 0-2 Evesham United

A goal in each half was the difference and saw ‘The Robins’ progress into the Second Qualifying Round of The Emirates FA Cup.

The first 20 minutes of the game showed two sides that were closely matched, both plying some nice football on the ground. Daventry almost struck in the 20th minute when Emery squared the ball to Creaney whose shot rebounded off the crossbar.

Evesham then went on the attack winning a free kick on the left about 6 feet from the corner flag, a superb ball into the box from Sheehan found the head of Jamie Lucas on 23 minutes, to give the visitors a lead they took into the half time break.

The second half had a similar shape as the first half with both sides again playing committed football, Daventry’s Creaney hit the bar for a second time in the 71st minute before Evesham broke away and again found the back of the net. Some good football in the lead up eventually finding Aaron Basford in the who slotted the ball home to double ‘The Robins lead.

As the game became quite stretched Evesham looked the better side playing better controlled and possession football.

At the final whistle, with a little bit of luck favouring Evesham, the loyal travelling support showed their appreciation to the players.

The draw for the next round, to be played on Saturday 3rd October, takes place on Friday lunchtime.
