Evesham came from behind twice to beat Clevedon Town 3-2 and remain unbeaten at home in the Evo-Stik Southern South & West courtesy of two goals by striker Marcus Palmer. Manager Matt Clarke made sweeping changes to the Robins starting line-up that under performed at Abingdon three days earlier in an attempt to end a run of three league and cup games without a win.
After a floodlight failure delayed kick-off by twenty minutes both sides took time to settle but it was the seasiders who made the breakthrough on 12 minutes. Giani Kapika’s shot struck Jamie Hyde on the arm in the penalty area and former Bristol City midfielder Scott Murray converted from twelve yards. Henry Eze’s header struck the Clevedon woodwork before Palmer drilled in Leigh Downing’s corner at the back post to draw United level on the half hour. But it was the visitors who held an interval lead through Adam Mahdi’s explosive finish nine minute before the break .
United began the second half on the front foot and equalised ten minutes from the re-start, Palmer played in Downing who kept his cool before slotting home past advancing keeper, Lee Matthews. Evesham sensed victory forcing Clevedon to defend in numbers, before their efforts were rewarded with Palmer’s third goal of the season lashing the ball in following a goalmouth scramble. Nathan Hicks and substitute Luke Corbett were both within a whisker of increasing United’s lead before the end as the Robins finished the game on top.
