26-year-old central defender Charlie Wise is the first player to commit to playing for Evesham United under the new regime lead by manager Mike Ford. Charlie joins from Bromsgrove Sporting after spells at Brackley Town and before that a couple of seasons at Corby Town, when he joined in August 2019 from Banbury United.

He was part of Banbury’s promotion-winning side of season 2015/16 making a total of 32 appearances before leaving the club in August 2016 for Kidlington and then moving on to Wantage Town in February 2017. He re-signed for Banbury in September 2017.

He originally joined Banbury in September 2015 from Brackley Town Saints after being a regular in, and also captain of, the Brackley Town development Hellenic League Division One promotion-winning side of season 2014/15.

He came through the Brackley youth system after joining the club at the age of 12 from the Coventry City academy.

Talking to Dean Speake, Charlie said

“It looks a really good set up and I am pleased to come here. I have played here once before. The pitch looks lovely with good training facilities and appears a well-run club. I am excited to be here.”

“I have worked with Mike before at Banbury United where we were together for four years. I was a young player and progressed loads under him. With Mike in charge, it was a big pull to bring me to Evesham with the way the gaffer runs football clubs, along with Anton and the staff. It will be a professional set up. I have come here for the right reason to get the club up the leagues.”

“The environment Mike creates is always very professional to get players the best out of themselves and I look forward to contributing to it.”

Manager Mike Ford spoke about the first player to commit to the club for the 2022/23 season.

“It is important to get good players and good people. I have known Charlie a long time. I am really pleased to get him across the line and it is a really important signing for the football club. It shows a bit of intent from us as to where we want to try and be next season.”

“Lots of telephone calls and meetings at the moment. I want to make sure I get the right people in the dressing room. We need people that want to win with passion, care and support each other. Charlie fits the bill brilliantly and when we make further announcements, those players will also do that.”
