Matt Sysum`s 85th minute penalty earned Evesham a replay against Chasetown in the Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy. The tie goes to a replay at the Jubilee Stadium on Tuesday night with a home fixture against Redditch United awaiting the winners in the First Qualifying
Round on Saturday 31st October. Paperwork from Forest Green Rovers to the Football Association granting loanee Louis McGrory permission to play in the game arrived late which meant the youngster could take no part but striker Lance Smith returned to the United starting line-up in place of winger George Washbourne.

The early exchanges came to an abrupt halt after only a few minutes when Chasetown defender Rhys Thompson suffered a foot injury and was treated on the pitch before being stretchered off. The home side recovered from the delay to go in front after 15 minutes, when the dangerous Stan Mugisha capitalised on poor defending to fire the Scholars 1-0 ahead with a crisp finish into the bottom corner. Dan Macdonald responded for United with a shot-on-the-turn that fizzed just over and then the same player forced ex-Evesham stopper John Bateman to make a full length save from a well struck free kick.

The match then turned in United`s favour in the second half when Chasetown substitute Dan Edwards was shown a straight red by referee Mr Bond to leave the home side down to ten men for the final sixteen minutes. United continued to press, sensing they could get something out of the game and were rewarded with an equalising goal with five minutes to go. Adam Mann was bundled to the ground in the box by Mike Williams and skipper Sysum confidently tucked away the spot-kick beyond Bateman for 1-1. United were given a fright in injury-time when Chasetown`s Joe Halsall rattled the crossbar but the danger was cleared and both sides will have to do it all again on Tuesday evening.
