In their first home game of the 2017/18 season the Robins made a very bright start against Cinderford Town, they were camped in Cinderford’s half for the first 15 minutes with the first real chance falling to Jordan Bryan who hit the side netting. In the 10th minute a Bradley Gray free kick found the head of Matt Bennett who headed wide. The chances then came thick and fast for both sides in what was an action packed period. Gray had a shot turned round the post, then a great chance for Cinderford was headed over the bar by their number 9 Craig Norman. The chances kept coming with Norman rounding Evesham’s keeper but his shot was cleared off the line brilliantly by Robins defender Matt Bennett, just minutes later Cinderford’s Robbie Atkinson headed over the bar. Evesham keeper Sawyer was called into action in the 38th minute when he made a full length diving save to deny Cinderford’s Liam Angel, despite all the chances for both sides the first half ended with honours even.

With the second half underway both sides were going to find it hard to live up to the intensity of the first 45.  It wasn’t until the 52nd minute that the game reignited with Evesham’s keeper Sawyer again making a superb save to deny Cinderford’s Humphries, the next goalscoring opportunity fell to Paul Fahy who headed just wide in the 67th minute. The deadlock was finally broken on 86 minutes when the Robins number 6 Matt Liddiard headed in from close range with the assistance of the bottom of the crossbar from a Lorcan Sheehan corner. Adam Mann tried to double the advantage in the last minute of normal time only to be denied by Cameron Clark in the Cinderford goal with a save at full stretch. The Robins first home game of the season saw them take all three points in front of a crowd of 329.
