EVESHAM SECURE PLAYOFF POSITION IN DRAMATIC FASHION

Evesham United 3 vs AFC Totton 2

Evesham United secured their position in the playoffs in dramatic fashion at the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium on Saturday.

A Kyle Belmonte brace from the penalty spot and a late winner was enough for The Robins to see them finish fourth in the league table.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Evesham, however, as two first-half goals from AFC Totton in the 9th and 20th minutes and a red card to Alfie Dunn saw them walk into the dressing room with their chins on the floor and in need of a miracle.

An early penalty kick from Belmonte after a handball in the 50th minute sparked life into the game and following constant pressure, Belmonte equalised 20 minutes from time with another penalty after a foul on Owens for his brace.

Following a tense watching of other games for results elsewhere, a last-minute header by Chris Knowles from a corner, saw Evesham grab a victory and ultimately put them fourth in the table.

The Robins will now face Hamworthy United  on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the playoffs. The game will be played at Dorchester Town at 7.45pm.
