Evesham blew away the challenge of rock bottom Bashley on Tuesday night to move within touching distance of the Evo-Stik Southern South & West play-offs. It was a one-sided affair at the Jubilee Stadium against a young Bashley side who hadn`t won a league game all season. The victory makes it seven games unbeaten for United who are now up to sixth in the table and three points ahead of nearest challengers North Leigh. The ever-present Kevin Sawyer missed the game through illness and his place was taken by former Mangotsfield United stopper Conor Thompson, who didn`t have a shot to save all night.
United were on the attack from the start but had to wait 16 minutes before finally making the breakthrough and it was captain Matt Sysum who found the net coolly beating Joe Prodoma from 10 yards for his 11th goal of the campaign. It wa sn`t long before it became 2-0, courtesy of leading scorer Adam Mann who volleyed in from close range after a good run down the right by the turbo-charged Jacob Sloggett. Prodoma somehow kept out a Nick Stanley volley but was beaten for a third time on 33 minutes, when Ashley Williams powered home a header from Sean Wood`s flag-kick for his 2nd goal in two games. The first half scoring was completed three minutes later when a driven effort from Mann that curled beyond Prodoma into the bottom corner for 4-0.

Further chances fell United`s way at the start of the second half before Prodoma was beaten for a fifth time with Stanley`s expert strike from the edge of the box. Williams sent an audacious lob inches over from just inside the Bashley half and Lance Smith dragged his shot wide after racing clear as United kept up the pressure. There was an element of luck about goal number six in the 77th minute, when Jared Wilson`s corner deceived everyone and crept in at the back post. Smith squandered several more opportunities before finally getting on
the scoresheet in the last minute, latching onto Wilson`s weighted pass and firing under the advancing Prodoma to complete the rout.

Boss Paul Collicutt said, “I went into the Bashley dressing room after the game and told them they were all a credit to the club and wished them all the best. To travel all this way in midweek shows their dedication and I sincerely hope they win a game before the end of the season.” He added, ” It was a job done by us, we did what we had to do and it`s another three points and a clean sheet. You can only beat what`s in front of you and we did just that.”
