FA Cup agony for The Robins as they fall at the first hurdle

Report by Ash Symonds

Evesham United’s FA Cup campaign came to an early end on Saturday, as The Robins lost to Hinckley LRFC at the Spiers & Hartwell Stadium.

A brace from the visitors’ number nine, Andre Williams, was enough for Hinckley to progress past the extra-preliminary round of the FA Cup.

It was the hosts who began well, scoring in the third minute of the game through star-striker Kyle Belmonte after some silky dribbling from winger Owen James.

Nine minutes later, however, a mistake from Evesham’s goalkeeper Isaac Parry allowed Williams to lob the ball into the net for his first of the game.

Following a stalemate between the two sides for a further 50 minutes, the away side capitalised off some poor defence to give Williams a duo of goals in the second half.

A last-ditch attempt on goal through Ben Whitehead from a corner kick was tipped over the bar by Hinckley’s Will Highland, sealing the game for Hinckley LRFC.
