Evesham United returned to winning ways after four successive defeats to beat in-form North Leigh 1-0 in the Evo-Stik Southern South & West. Leon Kandekore`s first goal for the club was enough to seperate the two sides and give the Robins their second league double of the season.
United manager Paul West who steps down at the end of the season, gave a league debut to youth team player Oliver Burness and the youngster played his part in a deserved victory. The highlight of an evenly contested first-half belonged to Evesham goalkeeper Ben McNamara who somehow got a hand to Stuart Hole`s free-kick to push the ball onto the crossbar before having the danger cleared. The former Australian Schoolboy international also did well soon after gathering safely low down to keep out the dangerous Connor McDonagh. Skipper Matt Sysum twice forced visiting keeper Sam Warrell to save and fellow defender Chris Jackson also directed Richard Mansell`s free-kick just wide.
United had penalty appeals turned down in the second-half when Marcus Palmer was flattened in the box by Warrell who was attempting to punch clear but referee Mr Steward waved play-on. The only goal arrived soon after when substitute Nathan Hands made ground down the left before crossing low to Kandekore who forced the ball home at the back post.
Evesham went on to dominate the rest of the game and Warrell twice rescued North Leigh with brave stops from Kandekore and replacement Aaron Daniels who were both clean through and looked certain to score.
