Evesham United failed to cause an FA Cup upset against higher graded Stourbridge who booked their place in the Second Qualifying Round courtesy of a 3-0 win at the Jubilee Stadium. Stourbridge`s finishing was the difference between the two sides.

United`s catalogue of missed chances began during the opening exchanges when Carl Brown somehow prodded wide with only keeper Dean Coleman to beat. Skipper Marc Richards saw his goalbound drive deflected over before Stourbridge broke away to take a 10th minute lead. Sean Geddes delivered a free-kick from the left and Nathan Bennett rose highest to glance a header into the top corner.  This was two minutes after Stourbridge had a perfectly good goal disallowed.

Former Evesham striker Roly Agbor should have added a second soon after but pulled his shot wide after getting behind the United defence. Back came Evesham and Jared Wilson was unlucky to have his drive come back off a post and from a Marcus Palmer cross Lance Smith starting his first game for the Robins poked just wide at the near post. There was still time before the break for Smith and Ashley Jackson to curl efforts narrowly off target with Coleman beaten.

Coleman was busy at the start of the second-half saving from Brown and Palmer but a challenge by James Loney on Drew Canavan in the box resulted in Geddes adding a second for the Glassboys from the penalty spot just prior to the hour. Luke Benbow then capitalised on Evesham throwing men forward when he found the net for Stourbridge`s third, seven minutes from time to complete the scoring with an excellent finish from 20 yards.
