Evesham travelled to Staffordshire yesterday to take on Newcastle Town of the Evo-Stik Northern League Division One South in the FA Cup Preliminary Round and came away with a 1-1 draw.

The hosts took the lead on 9 minutes through Jordan Cole after a ball over the top of the defence. Midfielder Matt Liddiard scored his third in three games to equalise in the 22nd minute with a shot from the edge of the box after a lay-off from Bradley Gray.  Then, Carl Brown was brought down by the keeper but the resultant penalty from Matt Wiliams was saved.

In the second half Lorcan Sheehan hit the bar with a powerful shot from 20 yards and Kevin Sawyer made a superb save to deny Newcastle.

Evesham controlled the game for large portions but lacked a cutting edge, with a draw a fair result.

The replay will be at the Jubilee Stadium on Wednesday at 7.45pm.
