Matt Liddiard’s 13th goal of the season after 10 minutes earned Evesham United a hard fought 1-0 home win over Paulton Rovers this afternoon. Andy Lewis made his debut and Will Wellon also played on his return to the Jubilee

Liddiard’s goal was a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner after good link up play from Adam Mann and Lewis Powell. On the half hour, the Paulton keeper Andrew Hannah made a great save from Powell’s bullet header.

Powell saw a header cleared off the line by Kyle Knott in the 52nd minute after a cross from Lewis Binns, while Carl Brown and Mann were both denied by fine saves from Andy Hannah who had a fantastic game. Paulton’s efforts mainly came from long shots that did not trouble Kevin Sawyer in the Evesham goal.

Paulton had Liam Monelle sent off receiving a second yellow card late on, which was given for diving.

Evesham are now up to fourth, winning four and drawing the other of the last five games. It is Swindon Supermarine at the Jubilee on Wednesday.
