Evesham United moved up to fifth in the Evo-Stik League South West table after a comfortable 3-0 win over third-bottom Slimbridge at The Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium on Wednesday night.

Brown scored opener

United opened the scoring after 24 minutes when Carl Brown beat Swans` keeper Oliver Hall from an acute angle. The hosts’ Archie Haskayne saw his effort cleared off the line shortly prior to the break and then Brown should have doubled the lead but tread on the ball five yards out when easier to score.

That was the only goal of the first half, but less than a minute into the second, Evesham doubled their advantage when Adam Mann`s free-kick from 20 yards flew into top corner, leaving Hall with no chance.

And they made sure of the points 20 minutes from time when Matt Liddiard converted a penalty given for foul on Jordan Bryan

“After the disappointment of the weekend we managed to get back on the right side of things with a winning performance,” said Collicutt to the Worcester News.

“The temperature dropped and the pitch was getting harder as we went along so I was pleased with the way the lads handled everything.

“I had been to watch Winchester at Bishop’s Cleeve the night before. Cleeve worked very hard and we knew Slimbridge would do exactly the same and that we had to be one our toes.

“We created a number of chances in the first half and came in 1-0 up before knocking in another couple after the break. All round it was a good display which sets us up nicely for Saturday.”
