Report by Tony Walsh of Paulton Rovers

Paulton were hit by a killer punch of a goal with minutes left to give Evesham United full three points.

The first half was even as Josh Hunt volley was held by Rovers young keeper Aaron Sainsbury whilst his opposite number saved after a swift Paulton move as Will Hailston set up Tom Llewellyn.

Hailston then saw his drive deflected for a corner and in response Evesham striker Jamie Lucas hit a wild shot over the bar.

On the restart Rovers should have gone ahead as Lee Ibraham low cross from the left was missed timed by Ryan Gay with the goal begging.

Llewellyn then fired wide after good build up whilst Lucas again tested Sainsbury.

Both sides had half chances before Gay had a shot blocked after good work by sub Tyler Jackson. Hailston went on a run and his low drive was held by visiting keeper Lewis Clayton.

Clayton was again alert tipping over Dan Cottle’s half volley. Slightly against the run of play and with five minutes left Evesham scored the only goal as a firm cross from the right was headed home by Lucas.

Rovers threw everything to level as Jackson’s shot was blocked and Hailston had another half chance.
