Trip to Leaders Taunton Tomorrow

Manager Paul Collicutt is hopeful his promotion-chasing Evesham United side will give champions-elect Taunton Town a run for their money on Saturday (3pm) according to the Worcester News.

The Robins make the trip to the Viridor Stadium to tackle Town who are 17 points clear at the top of Southern League Division One West.

Promoted Taunton are on a 28-match unbeaten streak — with their last league defeat coming in September — and on the cusp of clinching the title.

While the Peacocks bid to seal top spot, sixth-placed Evesham are determined to secure a play-off place.

“We are expected to get turned over by Taunton,” Collicutt said.

“They are on the crest of a wave. They are unbeaten in 28 games which is incredible and will deservedly go on and win the league.

“I think they only need another four or five points to do that so they will be going all out to try to beat us.

“But we will give it our best shot and if we can play like I know we can hopefully we will give them a run for their money.”

Evesham’s trip to Shortwood United on Monday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

But Collicutt said the cancellation gave his players extra time to gear up for their battle with Taunton.

Defender Andy Lewis (hamstring) and midfielder Jordan Bryan (back) are battling to be fit while captain Linden Dovey returns after serving his three-match ban.

“It has just given one or two lads that have had niggles the chance to recover,” Collicutt added.

“But games don’t get much bigger than playing the team who are top of the table. We have got six matches left and they are all going to be difficult.”
