Striker Lance Smith has set his sights on netting more than 30 goals in Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West this term after deciding to stay at promotion-chasing Evesham United according to the Worcester News.

Manager Paul Collicutt has expressed his delight after Smith turned down the chance to move to higher-graded Redditch United.

And he believes there is nothing stopping the forward, who tops the league’s scoring charts with 25 goals, from adding to his impressive tally.

“It was a difficult decision for him and I am really pleased he has made the right one,” Collicutt said.

“If Lance can be at the top of his game between now and the end of the season there is no reason why he can’t hit over 30 goals.”

Smith is set to start up front against mid-table North Leigh at the Jubilee Stadium tomorrow (3pm) but the Robins will be without Carl Brown (groin) and Sam Pearson (quad) through injury. Evesham will be without Joe Turley for the rest of the season.  The player picked up a knee injury at Didcot Town in December and has been diagnosed as a ruptured cruciate ligament.

Second-placed Evesham thrashed North Leigh 5-1 last month but Collicutt is wary of their opponent’s “exceptional” away record after condemning Salisbury to only their second home defeat of the season.

“They have some very good players and on their day can beat anybody in the league so we have got to be on our game,” Collicutt added.
