A disputed penalty fifteen minutes from time denied Evesham United victory at Fairfax Park in the Evo-Stik Southern South & West. Dave Pearse levelled for the hosts from 12 yards after Tom Legg`s driven cross had inadvertently struck Richard Mansell on the elbow. Earlier Jamal Clarke fired United ahead in first half stoppage time. The defender who was forced to play as a make-shift striker, latched onto Leigh Downing`s inch perfect pass before slipping the ball past keeper Luke Purnell.
Clarke had gone close leading up to the goal, prodding Leon Kandekore`s cross just wide of an upright and then sending a piledriver over the crossbar during the early exchanges of the second half. After Pearce`s equaliser, United skipper Matt Sysum headed Simon Fitter`s free-kick into the arms of Purnell.
But it was Bridgwater playing their 13th game in 25 days, who went closest to grabbing a late winner when Steve Fitzpatrick struck the outside of a post with the game deep into added time.
