Evesham United’s new signing is starting to show the sort of form that prompted Peter Crouch to describe him as the most talented player he has ever played with according to the Gloucestershire Echo.

That is the view of manager Paul Collicutt, who saw former Cardiff City and QPR winger Jeanne go on as a second half substitute and keep Evesham in the FA Cup in Saturday’s first qualifying round tie with Barwell.

They trailed 2-0 at half-time, but Jeanne set up two goals to force a replay, which takes place in Leicestershire on tonight.

The winners will play Ilkeston, who like Barwell play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, in the second qualifying round on Saturday, September 17.

“Leon came on with half an hour to go and had a big impact,” Collicutt said.

“He set up both goals for Lance Smith, although one of them may go down as an own goal.

“You can see why Peter Crouch made those comments in his book because there is so much talent there and he is very confident in his ability.

“He hasn’t really had a pre-season, so we will ease him up to full fitness, but in his short time with us, his ability is clear to see.”

Winger Jake Sloggett will miss the replay, while new signing Mark Magee is cup tied.

Liam Harding, who has signed dual registration with Hellenic League Tuffley Rovers, is back from injury and will travel to Barwell with Evesham.

Midfielder Brad Williams made his first start for the club on Saturday, having been recommended to Collicutt by former Bath City manager and Cheltenham Town midfielder Lee Howells.
