Evesham’s U18 Girls team got back to winning ways on Saturday after their previous loss to top of the table Wolves.

The girls started with confidence after excellent training sessions mid week and with a new defensive formation looked comfortable at the back, Amy Campbell, Millie Meadows and Bethany Guy, being well marshalled by Captain Lauren Cowley.

Evesham forced The New Saints back in to their own half constantly throughout the first 30 mins but a strong TNS defence were holding their own and trying to hit Evesham’s girls on the counter attack.

However eventually the pressure paid off!  An attacking run and cross from the left by the outstanding Beth Guy found Laura Powers, who’s powerful sidefoot volley rifled into the net from 10 yards out.

The quality of The New Saints then showed as they forced a few corners either side of half time but Evesham weren’t in the mood to concede. The Saints gave away a foul and a 30 yard freekick from Cowley flicked off a defenders head and, although the keeper got a hand to it she could only deflect it on to the post and in.

With Hannah Kedward, Sophie Broome, Sophie Griffiths, Hannah Lowerson, and Hannah Watts running the midfield Evesham pressed on looking to feed the rotating forwards Zoe Pygott, Hannah Campbell, Shannon Murphy and Laura Powers.

The pressure now starting to tell on TNS who continued to battle hard, but from another attack the ball was passed through to Powers who dispatched the ball from inside the area.

Evesham were now in full flow and another shot could only be parried by the New Saints keeper leaving Hannah Campbell the simplest of tap ins to bring the score to 4-0

Special mention should be made of Clare Hampton in the Evesham goal who was on her toes when needed and made a couple of important saves and Kelly Fowkes who helped tie up the clean sheet after coming on in the second half.
