Evesham United returned to winning ways in the Evo-Stik Southern South & West courtesy of Leigh Downing`s 8th goal of the season at play-off chasing Didcot Town. Evesham produced their best performance of the season at the npower Loop Meadow Stadium and dominated the game from start to finish. Only a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the final scoreline down to just one. Defender Richard Mansell made his debut for the Robins following his transfer from Cirencester Town and top scorer Marcus Palmer was recalled to the starting eleven.

Didcot enjoyed their best spell at the start which saw Ricky Allaway strike an upright and Mark Janes have an effort disallowed for offside. But after this Evesham were in total command. Didcot defender Sam Elkins cleared off the line from Carl Brown before the decisive goal arrived on 22 minutes. Brown twisted and turned in the box before finding Downing who calmly slotted home from six yards. Railwaymen keeper Marcos Periera prevented his side falling further behind before half-time making important blocks to keep out Brown twice, Palmerand Will Gayton.

It was one-way traffic in the second half with Didcot on the back foot and forced to defend in numbers. Palmer got clean through on a couple of
occasions but fired wide of the target and Periera kept his side in the game by pushing Jamie Hyde`s pile-driver onto the crossbar and saving bravely at the foot of his post from Gayton. Late on Brown dragged his shot wide after a poor clearance by Periera as Evesham finished the game on top and comfortably end Didcot`s eight match unbeaten home run.
