As the final home fixture for ‘The Robins’ of the 2018-19 season got underway it was the visitors that looked like they, of the 2 sides meant business. Evesham were not having any of it and lifted the spirits of their loyal supporters in the 6th minute, an excellent corner from Adam Page was headed into the Moneyfields goal by one of their players, much to the delight of the home fans.

The visitors continued to play their pressing game and as their 4th place in the Evo-stik League South Division One South would suggest they had not come to the ‘Jubilee’ to make up the numbers. On 10 minutes ‘The Monies’ were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Evesham box but, the number 7 Jake Raine could only send his kick over the bar.

With the Robins now matching their opponents in every area, a Kane Simpson shot from a ball headed down by Joe Turley went just wide. A minute later the home side doubled their advantage, a piece of excellent passing play involving a long ball from Turley which found Simpson who squared the ball across Moneyfields box, Steve Davies was on hand to score his 6th goal of the season in the red & white stripes.

The tempo of the game was unrelenting with both sides playing open and attacking football, the home defence seemed to be equal to anything the visitors threw at them. Every time Moneyfields went on the attack they looked dangerous and almost got one back in the 43rd minute, a Steve Hutchings header hitting the bar.

Not happy with their 2 goal half time lead ‘The Robins’ started the second half with purpose, their reward came when another excellent squared cross from Page found Turley and his superbly struck shot gave Steve Mowthorpe no chance, 3-0 and the hosts were hoping that may of taken the steam out of their opponents, no such luck. Just 2 minutes later a well-placed long range shot from Monies defender Joseph Griggs gave Andy Hannah no chance.

Periods of excellent Evesham defending seemed to take its toll on the visitors who only managed a couple of longer-range efforts as the minutes ticked by.

At the final whistle the players left the pitch with ‘The Robins Faithful’ showing their appreciation of an excellent team performance, one that might still yet get them into the play-offs should the teams above them slip up. A lovely present for the manager on his 60th birthday.
