North Leigh conceded a goal in each half against a strong Evesham United team seeking a play-off spot at season end. However with better luck the home team should have taken an early lead as on six minutes a ball fed out to Michael Hopkins was delivered by him directly into the path of striker Jamal Lawrence running into the visitors six yard box but he missed it by a fraction.

The majority of play was centred in the hosts half with Evesham looking the more likely to score. On 14 minutes a through ball delivered over the Millers defence by Lewis Binns was seized on by Evesham striker Lewis Powell who reached the ball just ahead of Millers keeper Manny Agboola. However the striker’s crucial slip allowed the keeper to gather the ball and the danger passed.

Powell 2 in 2

The opening goal scored on 28 minutes saw Evesham left back Matt Bennett deliver a deep looping cross to the back post where Powell was able to head the ball back across goal over the keeper and drop inside the far post for a relatively simply executed goal.

HT: North Leigh 0 – 1 Evesham United

At the start of the second half North Leigh raised their game and threatened the Evesham goal with a number of promising attacks in the first ten minutes. However Evesham looked dangerous on the break and so it proved on 67 minutes as a sloppy cross field pass on the half way line by the home side led to a sudden surge forward by three Evesham players with midfielder Matt Liddiard eventually finishing off the attack by placing an accurate header out of reach of Agboola from 12 yards from a Powell cross.

This second goal effectively killed off the game and although Leigh continued to press forward, Evesham dealt with all that the home side could muster.
