Despite taking an early lead Evesham conceded twice in the first half to go down 2-1 at lowly Shortwood United in the Evo-Stik Southern South & West on Tuesday evening.

Carl Brown with his second goal in two games got Evesham off the mark, only for Shortwood to find the net through Luke Gullick and Matt Bennett in a six minute spell and ensure the Wood their 5th win of the season on home soil.

Evesham enjoyed their best spell at the start and went ahead after just nine minutes. Brown`s cross-cum-shot caught Tom King in two minds and finished up in the back of the keeper`s net.

Within 60 seconds however, Gullick rose unchallenged to head Shortwood level. What proved to be the winning goal arrived with 16 minutes on the clock, Bennett giving Evesham stopper Tom Cross no chance with a clinical finish twelve yards out.

Cross prevented Gullick from extending Shortwood`s lead in the second half with a fine save low down to his right and it was left to Simon Fitter to go closest for the Robins before the end but King was up to the task turning behind the midfielder`s free-kick which looked destined for the top corner.
