1. The Emirates FA Cup Second Qualifying Round

Tamwoth 3-1 Evesham United

The game was played in a constant downpour, had the pitch been grass there is no doubt the game would have been in doubt but, thanks to the 3G it was good to go. The last time the 2 met in the FA Cup was in August 1994 and The Lambs ran out 3-1 winners on that day.

Tamworth took the lead with just 83 seconds on the clock, Shaquille McDonald latched onto a cross field ball, cut back, and picked his spot from 30 yards to open the scoring.

An Evesham freekick on 7 minutes saw the ball go into the box, when it came back out it fell for Jack Horrell whose strike from 30 yards out was parried away by Jasbir Singh in Tamworth goal.

A good move upfield by The Lambs allowed Bilal Yafai a strike from the left of the box, which took an absolutely wicked deflection giving Lewis Clayton no chance to stop and found its way inside the near post to double the hosts lead on 21 minutes.

Despite being 2-0 down ‘The Robins’ were playing very attractive football at times forcing the Tamworth defence to work hard on numerous occasions. Just after the half hour mark when Jaanal Gordon received the ball in his own half, before he pushed forwards, before driving his shot into the far corner from the edge of the box.

As the second half got underway it was Evesham that showed their intent forcing Tamworth to up their game defensively, getting a fair reward for their efforts on 55 minutes. Tamworth’s Tonks brought down Josh Hunt in the box and the referee pointed to the spot, Jack Horrell’s penalty was well struck past Singh to finally reduce the arrears.

With Evesham now putting their Southern League Premier Division Central opponents under pressure on numerous occasions, Tamworth were reduced to 10 men with an hour on the clock. Jordan Gough was sent off for a rash challenge on Calvin Dinsley.

It was not to be for ‘The Robins’ as the home defence stood fast denying them on 84 when a Lucas header was saved by Singh. In the 9th minute of added time another Lucas header flashed wide of the hosts goal.
