Boss Paul Collicutt is sweating on the fitness of three of his Evesham United mainstays ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Shortwood United (3pm) according to the Worcester News.
Midfielder Joe Turley (knee), defender Matt Bennett (groin) and captain Linden Dovey (hamstring) suffered problems in the 2-0 win at North Leigh on Boxing Day.
Lewis Powell and Matt Liddiard struck as the Robins followed up Saturday’s 2-0 home success over Larkhall Athletic only for the injuries to temper Collicutt’s festive cheer.
“They were two good wins but came at a bit of a cost,” said Collicutt.
“Joe’s is particularly concerning because he missed such a long time before coming back but if we’re honest, playing two games in four days was possibly a bit too much.
“I think a bit of fatigue played its part. He did a lot of miles in the two matches so we hope it won’t be too bad and it gives us a decision to make ahead of Monday.
“We have a bit of a rest between now and the Shortwood game which will help us because conditions deteriorated very quickly at North Leigh.
“The pitch was in good condition but the rain came down for 90 minutes. We did well to come away with the win on the back of an encouraging performance against Larkhall on the Saturday.
“There were plenty of pluses but also plenty to work on.”
Collicutt hopes to have Leroy Odiero and Mark Francis back from illness for the Shortwood match as well as feeling optimistic over his crocked trio.
“We do have a few days off to try to recharge the batteries,” he added. “Hopefully we will see a good crowd for the game and I’d like to wish all of our supporters a happy new year. We need to make a positive start to 2018 to make sure we’re in the shake up.”
