A late Callum Ebanks strike condemned Bideford to a sixth league defeat of the season as Evesham United took all three points at the Sports Ground on Saturday.

Brandon Smalley hooked the ball forward in the 76th minute for Ebanks to run on to and the Cheltenham Town loanee took a touch and finished emphatically past Adam Seedhouse Evans.

Bideford can count themselves unfortunate to have come away from the game empty handed but it was another case of chances not being taken for the home side.

James Mayne glanced a header wide from a Jack Calver corner, Lewis Wilson’s free kick forced a save from Isaac Parry and Rubin Wilson pulled a shot wide after being teed up by Lewis Wilson.

Calver, who was a constant threat on the left worked his way into the box and cut a great ball back which George Nancekivell was inches away from finishing right in front of goal.

As the half came to a close Jordan Lymn curled a great effort just over the bar for Evesham but the visitors came even closer soon after. Lymn pulled the ball back for Ebanks on the edge of the six yard box but the striker’s touch completely deserted him at the crucial moment.

Seedhouse Evans saved a shot on the turn early in the second half while Parry was tested at the other end by Calver.

Bideford’s best opportunity came and went as Parry repelled a Calver free kick and was in the right place to save Lewis Wilson’s follow up which really should’ve found the net.

As it was The Robins were made to pay as Ebanks gave Evesham the lead with 14 minutes remaining but Bideford did not give in and pressed for an equaliser in the latter stages. The closest they came was a volley from George Tucker which was pushed away by Parry.
