Gerry Oldham is to join Evesham United as assistant to manager Paul Collicutt.

Former Cheltenham Saracens boss Oldham announced his decision to leave Cinderford Town at the end of the season, having helped them win the Southern League Division One South and West title for the first time.

He was John Brough’s number two at The Causeway, but he will spend the 2016/17 campaign working with Paul Collicutt at the Jubilee Stadium.
He replaces Mark Boyland, who has left for work and family reasons. Richard Smith will remain at Evesham as first team coach.

“Gerry is a great signing for us,” said Evesham boss Collicutt.

“He knows the local football scene well and he did an exceptional job at Cheltenham Saracens.

“Although I’ve never worked with him, I have spoken to him many times and he is very positive and good with the players.

“We will bounce off each other well and I am chuffed to have him on board.”

Gerry Oldham knew within two minutes of meeting up with Paul Collicutt that Evesham United was the right club for him.

The former Aston Villa academy coach has left his role as assistant manager at Cinderford Town to link up with boss Collicutt as number two at the Jubilee Stadium.

He helped Cinderford win the Southern League Division One South and West title for the first time and he will now be aiming to achieve the same feat at Evesham, but he knows it will not be easy with Hereford and Salisbury set to join next season.

“You only have to look at the set-up at Evesham, it’s a lovely place to go and work,” Oldham said.

“It’s only 20 minutes down the road and I think they have a good squad already to challenge for next year.

“Colly (Collicutt) is as enthusiastic he was 25 years ago, which made an impression on me and we are already talking to players to make sure the squad is stronger to give us a good chance of achieving what we want to achieve.

“We need that extra depth in the squad to compete with clubs like Hereford and Salisbury, who are coming up.”

Oldham thoroughly enjoyed his two years at Cinderford, but he said it was the right time to seek a new challenge having achieved what he set out to do at The Causeway.
