At the weekend our ground was burgled and damaged by thieves.  However it is business as usual.

The following news item is from the Evesham Journal website where everything that happened is well reported.

Beer and cider taps were left running, mustard was sprayed on the walls and a TV was ripped from its mount when thieves broke into Evesham United Football Club. The club was ransacked by the thieves, who club officials believe were looking for cash, in an attack described as “malicious” and “wanton”.

The theft took place between 10am on Saturday (December 27) and 9.15am on Monday (December 29) and has caused about £5,000 worth of damage. It’s thought the vandals arrived across fields from Hinton on the Green and smashed their way in by knocking down a fence. The front door to the club was jemmied open and the thieves managed to make off with a TV, a cooking grill, a few bottles and a small amount of petty cash.

Jim Cockerton, club chairman, said a lot of damage was done but it had been repaired in time for a New Year’s Eve function taking place at the club on Wednesday. “It was malicious, wanton damage,” he said. “The breaking in took an outside fence down, they smashed it down and jemmied the outside door. They smashed lights outside and things inside, including the till. They have made a horrible mess. It’s the damage to the doors which is the main problem. They also left all the beer taps running, knocked a Christmas tree over, ripped the TV off the wall. They have ransacked the place.” He added “We are looking within the region of around £5,000 worth of damage. We don’t keep cash on the premises, I think that’s all they were after. It’s not a good time of year but we have the club is ship shape again, we have a function on New Year’s Eve. You are angry when you see what was done, it’s totally unnecessary.”

The break in to the club, which opened for the community two and half years ago at its base in Cheltenham Road, Evesham, was discovered by Martin Brain. He said: “Every room was ransacked looking for money. All locked doors were forced open, some drink was taken, four full barrels of beer and cider was left to run over the floor all beer taps left on, large cooking equipment taken, mustard sprayed over the walls, flat screen TV taken off the wall and the games machine emptied.”

Anyone with information should contact the police on 101 quoting incident 93 of December 29.
