A rousing second half display did the trick for Evesham United to collect their first win of the season at bottom club Bashley in the Evo-Stik Southern South & West Division. Trailing 1-0 at half-time, United came out after the break with all guns blazing to score four times and bag maximum points at the third time of asking.

A coach journey of over four hours took its toll in the first half with United looking leg weary and taking time to settle in the humid conditions. The Red and Whites were given a wake-up call after just ten minutes when Serge Fon got clear but the reliable Kevin Sawyer was up to the task by making a fine save diving low to his left. United went on to boss the remainder of the half but squandered a number of chances and paid the price five minutes before the interval when the speedy Fon took advantage to sweep in a shot beyond Sawyer to hand the home side a shock lead.

After a few home truths from manager Paul Collicutt at half-time, United were soon on the money when Matt Sysum hit a post and then Bash keeper Rob Gillett made an excellent one-handed stop to keep out Nick Stanley`s drive. But on 54 minutes, the equaliser deservedly arrived courtesy of Greg King`s own goal which deflected in past the stranded Gillett following Lee Smith`s good run and cross down the right. It soon became 2-1 on the hour when Sysum met Sean Wood`s corner to send a looping header into the roof of Gillett`s net. United were now in full flow and looking more like their old selves with wave after wave of attacks on the Bash goal. Gillett performed heroics keeping out a countless number of shots but was beaten twice in a minute as the Robins finally put the game to bed. Substitute George Washbourne curled in a delightful shot on 79 minutes and sixty seconds later, another replacement Kevin Slack made it a comfortable 4-1 victory steering home Clayton Green`s pin-point cross from the left.
