Shaun Cunnington Resigned

Evesham United`s management team of Shaun Cunnington and Paul Tomlinson resigned from their positions after the Robins slumped to a 3-0 home defeat against Mangotsfield United in the Calor League Division One South & West. Former Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion midfielder Cunnington and his assistant Tomlinson ended their short reign at the Jubilee Stadium with United positioned dangerously close to the relegation zone with just two wins from twelve league games.

Before the kick-off Evesham suffered a blow when central defender James Loney picked up an injury during the warm up and had to be replaced by reserve team player Conor Sherry. Joe Halsall, the ex Stratford Town captain, made his debut. After a goalless first-half, Mangotsfield stamped their authority after the interval despite playing over half-an-hour with only ten men and without a recognised goalkeeper. Things started to go wrong for United just five minutes after the re-start when Ryan Bath found the net for the visitors with a low drive that beat the diving John Bateman. Field stopper Kevin Sawyer was then dismissed for a challenge on Nat Lewars and replaced between the sticks by goalscorer Bath.
Evesham failed to take advantage of the extra man and it was Mangotsfield who scored again when Ben Hunt swept home Ashley Williams` cross on 68 minutes to make the score 2-0.
Bath was never tested by a United side lacking direction and with five minutes to go Josh Egan scored the best goal of the game with a powerful shot on the turn that thundered into the net off the underside of the bar to complete a comfortable scoreline for Mangotsfield and leave United looking for their second manager of the season.
